My name is Kiesa Elliott, and I am the nursery manager.
I work with a fantastic team who nurture and support children from the age of 18mths to 5yrs.
Once you have read our information, please go to the ‘About Us’ page and use the 'Contact Us' form to get in touch with Lindsay, my office administrator. Lindsay works a part-week so there may be a short delay in her response; but she will answer your enquiries and guide you through booking a place for your child.
Micklefield Nursery doesn’t charge any administration fees and we don’t require a deposit. You can sign your child up with us completely FREE of charge. Should you change your mind, we will simply take you off our books.
Working Families who are entitled to 30hrs funding a week.
Micklefield Nursery are committed to help families return to work, so if you receive the 30hr working family funding; your child can start with us from 18mths.
For all other families; every child is entitled to 15hrs funding; the term after their 3rd birthday. For families who receive additional support; you may be eligible for up to 15hrs early learning funding. Simply Google ‘Better Start in Life’ and follow the eligibility checker to see what your family can claim.
If successful, you will be given a code; keep that safe as you will need it prior to your child starting at Micklefield. Please see our funding page for how we offer the funded sessions and what additional costs there are; such as the 'Early Start' or 'Late Finish', and additional hours outside the funding.

Educating young minds is what we do best. The staff are passionate about what they do, and it’s more a vocation than a job. Robust systems during recruitment shows how Micklefield Nursery is committed to safeguarding the children in our care. We also follow an Apprenticeship program in order to develop the new generation of Early Years Educators.

A day in the life at Micklefield.
During COVID times, grown-ups were not able to come into the nursery. It was quite remarkable how well the children adapted to saying good-bye at the main door. This helps even the youngest children settle quicker into their nursery day. On occasion, some children can find it hard to say good-bye. We have a very experienced team and the key person will be on hand to help. We offer new children settle sessions, and these are tailored around the needs of your child.
Micklefield Nursery base our curriculum around a language rich environment. We give the children a real love for stories and songs, and many of our activities are based around a core book/song. Listening is the key to learning, and our carpet times are fun and engaging. Even the youngest of children are drawn to the carpet with the song box, whilst the older children take part in more complex stories. We follow the letters and sounds phonics program.
Our role play, often reflects a key part to the story or song, allowing the children to ‘act out’ what they have heard, which in turn sparks imagination.
For example; the 3 little pigs or humpty dumpty has a role play using the giant building bricks. This encourages social play, as often it needs more than two friends to build – especially when the bricks tumble down! Of course; if you love dinosaurs, babies or cars – these can be accessed from the self-selection shelves.
Every classroom has access to a secure outside area.
The pergolas provide shade and shelter from the elements and we go out in any weather! The children in their final year before school, take part in our version of ‘Forest School’. This is FREE to all preschoolers.
We use an online journal called ‘Tapestry’. Lindsay will send you an activation email and you will be able to see weekly posts about what’s been happening in your child’s classroom. Your child’s key person will upload photos of what your child has been most involved in, and you can extend these ideas at home.
Tapestry is a two-way communication tool and families can upload photos from the weekend as this makes a lovely talking point when shared with the child.
Micklefield provides snacks morning and afternoon at no extra cost; families just provide a packed lunch and a water bottle. Guidance will be given in your welcome pack around what to pack for your child and about food safety. If your child has an allergy or intolerance; there is a section on this on the application form. Snack has a mixture of carbs and fresh fruit or vegetable. This is a great way for your child to try new textures. You will provide your child with their own water bottle, and this is accessible throughout the day for your child.
Lunchtimes are a sociable event. In your child’s classroom; the toys are put to one side and the tables laid for lunch. The children sit in small groups with an adult. Often the adult will also eat their own food; teaching the children good habits such as ‘savory before sweet’, and learning skills such as opening wrappers and peeling satsumas. Once finished, the children get down and continue to play.

Come to the main door and we will bring your child out to you.
From 3:30pm onwards; you are able to come into the building. This is a great way to see them busy in their classroom, and you can have a chat with the lovely ladies that have been looking after them for the day.
Tiger Club
If you need an Early start or a Late finish; you can simply book your child in for additional hours. (Outside of funding).
Uniform
Micklefield Nursery School has a uniform because we see how this gives the children a sense of belonging when they put it on; and its good practice for school. We sell new and pre-loved uniform from the office, but it is not compulsory.
